Iraq - Afghanistan National Memorial
The National Iraq - Afghanistan Memorial - Remembering Our Fallen - is a photographic war memorial with over 5,000 Fallen that honors our country’s military Fallen from The Global War on Terror (9/11/2001 - 8/30/2021 ). This memorial also includes those who died in training accidents, whether stateside or overseas, as well as those who served in the combat zone during this time, but succumbed to PTS.
Unlike brick and mortar memorials, Remembering Our Fallen is designed to travel and includes military and personal photos. Its legacy will be that these men and women will be remembered and their names will be spoken, while helping to lessen the grief of their families.
The Memorial can go indoors or outdoors and is often escorted into a community. It can be set up in a variety of ways to fit many spaces as each of the 34 Tribute Towers stands on its own. When outdoors, each tower must have ten feet of clearance and water is required for the bases to provide stability. Most fire departments are willing to provide the water. There is a fee to host the Memorial and we ask the host to provide one hotel room for our national representative.
Critical to the success of setup and takedown is a team of 8-10 able-bodied volunteers. Our representative quickly trains and leads the team to complete setup in 2-3 hours; takedown goes more quickly, especially if the same volunteers return. Some must be able to lift 50 pounds and/or climb ladders.
A Gold Star family's greatest fear is that their Fallen will be forgotten.
